Zambia’s Ministry of Mines Discourages Unauthorized Sale of Mining Assets
In a notable shift, the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development emphasizes a departure from granting licenses for mere speculation purposes, both to Zambians and foreigners. The move aims to channel mining activities towards meaningful socio-economic contributions.
Hapenga Kapeta, the Permanent Secretary of Mines and Mineral Development, revealed that the mining cadastre has issued over 700 licenses to Zambians since 2022.
This represents a significant 33% of the total licenses, granted to both individuals and cooperatives. Dr. Kapeta stresses that possessing mining licenses comes with a responsibility to actively engage in initiatives fostering social and economic development.
To streamline and modernize the licensing process, Dr. Kapeta announces the Ministry’s launch of an online application portal. This platform is designed to facilitate citizens and stakeholders in acquiring mining licenses efficiently.
The initiative aims to enhance service delivery, ensuring a smoother process for applicants and reducing the bureaucratic hurdles associated with obtaining licenses.
